CORE GAME OBJECTIVES

Dead By Daylight is an an online asymmetric multiplayer survival horror video game developed and published by Canadian studio Behaviour Interactive.

SURVIVOR

In Dead by Daylight, the main objective for Survivors is to escape the trial and avoid being captured or killed by the Killer.

Core Mechanics of the Survivor

  • Repair Generators: Survivors must work together to repair a set number of generators scattered around the map. Usually, it’s five generators. Fixing these powers the exit gates.
  • Movment: survivors are in a third person view and move slightly slower than the killer.
  • Open Exit Gates: Once enough generators are repaired, Survivors can open one of the two exit gates.
  • After opening an exit gate, Survivors must reach it and escape the trial.
  • Throughout the game, Survivors also need to:
  • Avoid being detected, chased, and captured by the Killer.
  • When the time comes and they do get chased, they can try to waist as much time as possible. This could be using windows and pallets to escape the killer and borrow more time.
  • Help and heal each other if injured.
  • Use stealth and teamwork to survive.
  • The ultimate goal is to work cooperatively to survive and get out alive before the Killer sacrifices them.

    KILLER

In Dead by Daylight, the Killer is one of the two main roles, and their job is to hunt down and eliminate all Survivors before they can escape.

    Core Mechanics of the Killer

  • Hunting Survivors: Objective: Find and catch all 4 Survivors.
  • Movement: Killers are in first-person view and usually move slightly faster than Survivors.
  • Tracking: Use sound (e.g. footsteps, groans, generator noises), scratch marks (red streaks left by running Survivors), and perks to locate Survivors.
  • Press the attack button to perform a lunge or basic hit. This is known as a basic attack
  • 2 hits are typically required to down a Survivor (1 hit = injured, 2 hits = downed).
  • Special Powers: Each Killer has a unique power or ability that defines their playstyle (e.g., teleportation, traps, projectiles, stealth).
  • Pick up the downed Survivor and carry them to a hook.Survivors must be hooked three times to be eliminated, going through phases: First hook = struggle phase, Second hook = struggle (harder), Third = sacrifice (death)
  • To create map pressure move between generators to prevent progress, kick them to slow progress when no Survivors are nearby, and hook Survivors in different areas to split the team and create pressure.
  • The goal as the killer is to eliminate Survivors by hooking them 3 times each, prevent them from repairing 5 generators and escaping through the exit gates, and applying pressure aswell as controlling across the map to force mistakes.
