How to Play Badminton and How It Was Invented ?

How to play Badminton

Badminton is played either as a singles or doubles game, where players use rackets to hit a shuttlecock over a net. The objective is to score points by landing the shuttlecock in the opponent’s court or forcing them to make an error. A match is typically played as the best of three games, with each game going up to 21 points. Players must win by at least 2 points, and if the score reaches 29-29, the next point decides the game. The shuttle must be hit below the server’s waist during a serve and must land in the correct service court. Faults include hitting the shuttle out of bounds, letting it touch the ground, or striking it twice in a row. The game requires quick reflexes, strategic placement, and consistent footwork.

How Badminton was invented

Badminton originated in ancient civilizations, but the modern version of the game was developed in British India during the mid-19th century. British army officers stationed in Pune (then called Poona) added a net to a traditional game called "Battledore and Shuttlecock," where players used small rackets to keep a feathered shuttle in the air. They named this new game "Poona," and it quickly gained popularity. When the officers brought the game back to England, it was played at a country estate called Badminton House in Gloucestershire, from which the sport eventually took its name. In 1873, the first rules of badminton were standardized, laying the foundation for the competitive sport we know today.
