Summary
Luke Skywalker lives with his aunt and uncle on a farm on Tatooine. Desperate to leave the planet and attend the Academy like his friends, he is held back by his uncle’s need for help with the harvest. Meanwhile, an evil Emperor has taken over the galaxy and built a powerful weapon called the Death Star, capable of destroying entire planets. Princess Leia, a leader in the resistance, obtains the Death Star plans and hides them in the droid R2-D2, sending him to find Obi-Wan Kenobi. R2-D2, accompanied by his fellow droid C-3PO, ends up on the Skywalkers' farm. When R2-D2 wanders into the desert, Luke follows and eventually finds Obi-Wan. Together with the droids, will Luke and Obi-Wan be able to destroy the Death Star, or will the Emperor's rule remain unchallenged forever?
Impact Of This Movie
The way "A New Hope" captured hearts and imaginations around the globe set the stage for its successors to build upon. The sequel, "The Empire Strikes Back," took everything that made the first film extraordinary and deepened it, creating a richer, more intricate adventure and emotion. It wasn’t just a continuation of the story. It was a groundbreaking chapter that expanded the universe and introduced layers of complexity to beloved characters and made the franchise as a whole take a bunch of twists and turns along the way. This movie in particular is one of the only movies where the bad guys win through a good 95% portion of the film leaving the ending on an uncertain and almost eerie cliffhanger. That’s what I love about this movie so much as it was willing to do what no other movie was doing at the time.
