The Game Design Rant

Basics

This website is designed to give an insight on a few different genres of gaming, what makes them unique, and how to make them.

Multiplayer vs single player

To make a clear divide, multiplayer games are ones which primarily focus on people playing with others, and are more social platforms which tend to have competitive play. Single player games mainly have one person play but may have a multiplayer aspect. They're also more story driven, and are more of a casual experience

Genres

There are many different genres of games, and each have similarities and differences and handle competitive play differently. Games of the same genre often have similar mechanics, stories, or settings.

Main parts

A game has gameplay (the fun bits where you're in control), story (gives context to what you're doing and why), and the soundtrack (the music which sets tones in different parts of the game and if good enough, may be the main appeal of it).
